Magnetic fields of a few Gauss have been detected in a few M supergiants, in apparent contradiction with predictions of a few 100 G. Furthermore, these stars exhibit relatively strong signal in linear polarization. I will discuss the properties inferred from these observations, as well as the best strategy for forthcoming observations in the context of the BRITE survey.
